OUR STORY
Swincar Nurseries is an independent family business, specialising in growing and selling high quality seasonal plants at competitive prices. We also have an excellent range of trees, shrubs, perennials and associated products.
Many of our products are grown on site, such as basket, bedding and pot plants, while our grower contacts with Holland and Belgium ensure a good supply of quality plants, trees and shrubs. Andrew frequently visits Holland and Belgium to ensure that the plants on sale are of the highest quality. We are constantly looking to source new and exciting cultivars and varieties from the leading suppliers and breeders in horticulture to keep our range fresh and exciting.
Swincar Nurseries is located in Guiseley, within easy reach of Menston, Ilkley, Horsforth, Leeds and Harrogate. In the beautiful county of West Yorkshire. Swincar’s focus is on growing high quality plants, trees and shrubs, as well as sourcing premium products from suppliers in the UK, Holland and Belgium.
FAMILY HISTORY
For over 50 years, the nursery has been developed and nurtured by the Fisher family with Dick and Olive Fisher being the original owners. Dick Fisher moved his family “up the hill” from the neighbouring town of Otley in 1964 and began work restoring the dilapidated growing nursery and developing it in to the retail business that you see today.
To Dick and his family Swincars was much more than just a business, it provided a family home and a way of life for the husband and wife team and their five children. As the nursery grew, only son Andrew, became ever more involved in the day to day running of the business. So much so, that when Andrew left school aged 18 he began work full time at Swincar Nurseries eventually taking over the helm in 2006.
Over the years, greenhouses were re-built and the first wind turbine in Leeds was erected, with the nursery going from strength to strength.
More recently, numerous projects have been undertaken, including the colossal mission to rebuild the family home.
The installation of four new eco-friendly biomass boilers were completed in summer 2014, replacing three oil fired boilers with four Guntamatic Biocom wood pellet units. This involved a new boiler house and fuel store which holds 20 tons of wood pellet. The boilers are totally automatic and provided heat for all our glass, offices and workshops. Combined with the lighting power provided by the wind turbine, this significantly reduces Swincar’s carbon footprint and hopefully will lead the way in to an age of more sustainable production, not just for the horticulture industry.

More recently, we have rebuilt the outside area which now provides shelter for customers and plants in the harsher weather conditions. The roof can be removed in Summer and protects from wind, rain and frost in the Winter.
Andrew and Diane now live and work on the nursery with their four children, border collies, and hens. Their vision is to grow and source the best produce and service that they could possibly provide and ensure that everything they do is completed to the highest of industry standards.
