SEED POTATOES 2024
Our Seed Potatoes are back for 2024, we have both Early and Maincrop varieties in stock.
Available in either 1.5kg or 3kg bags.

If you're new to growing your own potatoes, Early varieties, also known as New Potatoes, can be harvested much sooner than Main crop types. However Maincrop produce a larger yield and are in the ground for much longer.

Seed potatoes are also called 'Tubers' and are best purchased in the winter time, and started off indoors to sprout before being planted into the ground. The potatoes are ready to plant when the shoots are about 3cm long.

Planting times of Seed Tubers:

First early: late March
Second early: early to mid-April
Maincrops: mid- to late April

If you are planting into containers, you will need to plant even earlier.

The most important thing to do before planting is to prepare your soil, ensure to dig through some well rotted organic matter - such as animal manure.
ONION SETS
Onions sets are the easiest and quickest way to grow onions. They are a very versatile vegetable that can be stored for months after harvesting.

Like potatoes, it is best to prepare your soil well before planting, they prefer it well drained, and do not thrive in acidic conditions.

It is best to grow onions in open ground, rather than containers and they are not suitable for growbags. Ensure to hand weed regularly and issue a light feed of Sulphate of Potash in June, which will help ripen the bulbs ready for storage.

Onions can be harvested in late Summer to early Autumn, when their foliage starts to turn yellow and topple over.
